Thorns and Burr Bushes

When I show you my scars
and using fear-gnawed-fingernails
open them to your inspection
promise to forget
where these dents and scrapes exist
so that you will not be tempted as those before
to dig, burrow, and tear
even in the name of healing.

I've daydreamed and journeyed
I've followed and leaded
along new trails and worn ones.

I've paused.

Concluding, with only slight tremble,
that I’d rather make
new marks with you
than retravel the same paths
I once stumbled
Without you.

Seth and I are taking a lot of walks as Spring finally arrives.
